Welcome to the 20th Century!
So after realizing I am in fact one of the last people on the planet to have a blog site, (Soon discovered after my sister informed me that she even has one. kermodefamily.blogspot.com) and based on the fact I know everyone cares about MY opinion. I have decided to blog. I plan on blogging up and down this place. Blogging here, and blogging there..okay I'll admit it. I have no idea what the hell 'blog' means, or how one 'blogs', but damn it I'm blogging none the less.
Maybe I'll get ambitious and join the 21st Century by getting an iPod too, but why buck a trend . I've got another 100 years to get into this century.
Maybe we're being a little too narcissistic when it comes to Global Warming?
As we all are recently discovering. Global warming's most dangerous trait is in fact global cooling. An event linked to the warm Pacific, and Indian Ocean currents travelling more wide spread than normal, increasing the temperature the frozen ice caps of the Earth's poles more rapidly. This in turn melts the ice caps causing massive amount of near freezing water to enter the Ocean's currents infact cooling them. Since all the Ocean's are linked, it cools both hemispheres.
What most don't know is, this happens every other century or so.
We now live in an era of computer graphics so vivid the lines between reality, and fiction are being blurred more and more everyday. The ability to compell, and provoke emotions through graphic demonstrations, and our morbid fascination with "The End of The World" have allowed ourselves to be caught up more in our own imaginations of catastrophe, then that of science.
While the 15th Century will always be known as the century of discovery, exploration, and conquest to those of North American decent. The century, and those following will always be remembered for times of hardship, love loss, and death to those on the other side of this rock. The era referred to as "Europe's Little Ice Age" was a time in European history that saw record famine, disease, economic failure. In quantities only seen in biblical times. This "Ice Age" was over 500 years long, and effect's are lasting. The Columbia Ice Fields in Jasper National Park are a prime example as the Ice Bergs actually grew during this time. Many nation's populations were dwindled to less than half the population before the "Ice Age" Mostly due to disease brought on by high moisture levels bringing once hidden fungus, bacteria, and virus' to the forefront. Inclimate temperatures were also an obvious detrement. Freezing countries, and cities who's populations did not have the resources to defend against such unforseen circumstances.
While it is always been referred to as "Europe's Little Ice Age", North America was not immune either. In the winter of 1780 New York harbour froze, allowing people to walk from Staten Island to Manhatten. As you know doubt saw, the picture above of people walking on a frozen waterfall was interesting. To think, that Niagra Falls in 1911. That put perspective to the matter for myself anyways.
Now what does this mean to me?
It is also a well known fact that the Polar Ice Caps did not exist in the prehistoric era. So what happened? Scientists have recently started seeking answers from not of this world. After looking at other planets, especially Mars. It has been discovered that during the times of our tropical periods in the age of Dinosaurs. The rest of our galaxy was experiencing exceptionally warm temperatures aswell. It is now being propossed, with little objection, that Mars' lost atmosphere occurred from an abundance of solar radiation (heat) and occurred in the general timeline of Earth's tropical periods billions of years ago. Basically our sun was just hotter back then (And we were a little closer too). Granted by only a few degrees, but since our ecosystem is very receptive to change. It drastically altered. If you look at our sun now, even compared to that of recorded events 50 years ago. Our Sun is actually on a warming trend. Increasing it's output (burping) by about 3-5%. Which are linked to increased plate tectonics (Volcanos, Earth Quakes) which inturn lead to massive CO2 emissions (Greenhouse Gases). Eventually I predict the cooling properties of the Ice Caps interacting with the warm Ocean currents will cease, and a flat out warming trend will occur. If you want me to get into how I think I can prove this through plant species because you aren't completely bored from reading this. Please feel free to leave a comment to that effect, but I know you won't. ;-)
I am not going to sit here, and say that we should pollute away, because we aren't effecting anthing. That's not what I am saying at all. I am just asking we shift our focus from awaiting the "End of the World" to taking preparations to ensure it's not the 'end' at all .
Well, that's my $.02 and change.
